Death in Pince-Nez or our Chekhov (2010) follows the story of veteran theatre director Daniil Sorin, who returns to Moscow after an extended hiatus to revive his renowned production of Anton Chekhov’s ‘The Cherry Orchard’. Initially hesitant, Sorin is persuaded by the cast to take on the project. The rehearsals commence smoothly, with each actress vying for the lead role and a past romance reigniting. However, a series of peculiar incidents begins to unfold. Sorin stumbles upon a gravestone with his own name, finds funeral service flyers scattered around the theatre, and receives a call from an Italian acquaintance who has seen his obituary. These eerie occurrences lead Sorin to a chilling realization: the actors who invited him have a sinister agenda to guarantee the play's success.
