River’s Edge (2017) follows Lao Yu, a prosperous entrepreneur from Beijing, as he journeys to a remote countryside village following the tragic news of his son's drowning. As the community continues its search for the body, Lao Yu finds himself immersed in the village life, forming a bond with the school principal. Through their dialogues, he uncovers the story of Xiaofen, a young woman his son had been protecting. Over time, Lao Yu gains insight into his son's transformation and develops a deeper appreciation for the villagers, who are facing imminent relocation. Driven by a desire to connect with his son's legacy, Lao Yu commits to aiding both Xiaofen and the village.
