Topless (2008) follows the vibrant and optimistic Natsuko as she attempts to heal from a heartbreak by engaging in a series of brief relationships following her split with Tomomi. However, when Tomomi reveals her intention to marry a man, Natsuko is left devastated. Meanwhile, Natsuko's heterosexual male roommate is dealing with his own emotions for her, and a teenage girl arrives in Tokyo seeking the mother who abandoned her years ago for a female partner. Each character, regardless of their sexual orientation, gender, or age, grapples with self-acceptance as their lives intertwine. The narrative explores the intensity of young love and the intricate dynamics of urban life.
