No Turning Back (2002) follows the journey of Pablo Fernandez, a Mexican English teacher who, after the tragic loss of his wife in a hurricane, embarks on a quest for a better life for himself and his indulged daughter Christina, aged five. In pursuit of this new beginning, Pablo takes on the role of a tomato picker as an undocumented immigrant in California. Tragedy strikes again when, while driving his employer Charlie's truck, Pablo accidentally hits and kills Dinah Knightly, a six-year-old girl. The ensuing investigation is led by the inept and arrogant detective Bryant and his more perceptive but superstitious rookie partner, Steven Lightning. Meanwhile, an ambitious but unscrupulous aspiring reporter, Soid, discovers the truth and uses it to blackmail Pablo, demanding to accompany him on his escape to Mexico or face exposure. The Fernandez family, along with Soid, embark on a perilous journey filled with improvisation and chaos, ultimately finding refuge in Canada.
