Written on the Wind (1956) follows the tumultuous lives of the Hadley family and their associates. In October 1955, dedicated geologist Mitch Wayne, employed by the Hadley Oil Company, crosses paths with executive secretary Lucy Moore in New York. Mitch extends an invitation to Lucy to join him and the wealthy, alcoholic playboy Kyle Hadley at a conference. The trio's journey reveals Kyle's true intentions and Mitch's deep friendship with Kyle. Both men quickly develop feelings for Lucy, leading to a complex love triangle. Kyle, despite his initial attempts to win Lucy with his wealth, eventually opens his heart to her, and they marry. Their honeymoon in Acapulco sees Kyle temporarily give up drinking, but his insecurities resurface when he learns of his potential infertility. Marylee, Kyle's sister, harbors unrequited feelings for Mitch and, driven by jealousy, poisons Kyle, falsely accusing Lucy and Mitch of infidelity. The revelation of Lucy's pregnancy further fuels Kyle's mistrust, culminating in a tragic outcome.
