Emerald City (1988) follows the journey of John Hargreaves, a successful screenwriter who finds himself at a crossroads. Initially, he is content to create mainstream films for substantial financial gain. However, his aspirations to produce meaningful and valuable cinema lead him to a point of frustration. When Colin, the protagonist, takes on a job as a writer for a television series, he becomes entangled in a complex romantic affair with Helen (Nicole Kidman), who is already in a relationship with another writer, Chris Haywood. This affair accelerates Colin's descent into a personal and professional crisis, highlighting the challenges and compromises he faces in the competitive world of Hollywood.
