Partis pour la gloire (1975) is set in 1942, when the Canadian Government enacted a Conscription Law despite the Liberal Party's previous pledge of "Never the Conscription." This decision sparked significant opposition, particularly in Quebec, where the predominantly French-speaking population viewed the war as an imposition by the British Government. As a result, many young men in Quebec chose to evade the draft by hiding in the woods or going into hiding.
