The Case of the Velvet Claws (1936) follows the newlywed adventures of Perry and Della, who are married by Perry's old friend, Judge Mary. Their honeymoon plans are abruptly interrupted when Perry is hired by a mysterious woman wielding a gun and $5000. She tasks him with preventing a scandalous story about Peter Milner from being published in 'Spicy Bits.' Perry's attempts to dissuade the editor fail, leading him to uncover the magazine's owner and the true identity of his client, who turns out to be Mrs. Belter.
