Four Faces West (1948) follows the journey of a cowboy named Ross McEwen who enters a town seeking a substantial loan of $2000 from the local banker. When questioned about securing such a large sum, McEwen presents his six-gun as collateral. The banker, impressed by the unusual guarantee, provides the money in exchange for an I.O.U. signed with the alias "Jefferson Davis." McEwen then departs, but not before being bitten by a rattlesnake. On his train journey, a nurse named Miss Hollister tends to his injury. Meanwhile, a posse searches the train for McEwen, but he manages to evade detection. However, a mysterious Mexican and a curious youngster are both keeping a close eye on the cowboy, each hoping to claim the reward for his capture.
