The Official Story (1985) follows Alicia Marnet de Ibañez, a contented wife to Roberto and mother to their adopted daughter, Gaby. Alicia's world is turned upside down when a probing question from one of her history students prompts her to question the official narrative of the military coup. Driven by a newfound curiosity, she sets out to uncover the truth about her daughter's origins, suspecting that Gaby might be the child of one of the many women who vanished during the coup. As Alicia delves deeper, her husband Roberto becomes increasingly desperate to keep her from the truth, but her resolve remains unshaken.
