The Golden Madonna (1949) follows the adventurous Patricia Chandler, portrayed by Phyllis Calvert, as she journeys to a sprawling Italian estate she has recently inherited from a distant family member. While organizing the mansion, Patricia inadvertently discards an unappealing painting, the Golden Madonna, which holds significant value as a good luck charm for the local community. The villagers' fury over this incident prompts Patricia and former military man Michael Christie, played by Michael Rennie, to embark on a quest to retrieve the painting in Naples. There, they encounter art thief Johnny Lester, portrayed by David Greene, who intends to sell the painting to a wealthy collector.
