I Was Framed (1942) follows the story of a tenacious journalist who is determined to expose a corrupt politician. However, his investigation leads to his arrest and imprisonment for a murder he did not commit. While incarcerated, he teams up with another inmate to plan an escape. Although the journalist successfully flees, his accomplice is recaptured and sent back to prison. After many years, the former convict is released and finds himself in the same town where his old cellmate has become a highly regarded member of society. The convict then tries to exploit his former friend's newfound status for personal gain.
