Das Andechser Gefühl (1975) follows a worried educator, portrayed by the director himself, as he sits in a beer garden atop the Andechs monastery hill. As flies meet their end in his beer, he grapples with a life marked by neglect: a wife overlooked, a child ignored, teaching responsibilities abandoned, and futile attempts to secure tenure. His only solace comes from a past dream—a remembered connection with a film star, sharing "the Andechs feeling," a sense of not being alone. Despite a chain of unforeseen events, yearning in Achternbusch's universe ultimately outweighs satisfaction, and longing surpasses the beer.
