Days and Nights in the Forest (1970) follows a group of four urban friends from Calcutta who embark on a spontaneous road trip to the dense forests of Palmau for a holiday adventure. Upon reaching a small village in Bihar, they find themselves without any lodging arrangements. They stumble upon a rest house and, lacking reservations, resort to bribing the caretaker, who is compelled to risk his job due to his wife's medical needs. The quartet, brimming with the arrogance typical of city dwellers, shows little regard for the local villagers. Led by Asim (Soumitra Chatterjee), the wealthiest among them, the group includes Sanjoy (Subhendu Chatterjee), a cautious and timid individual, Hari (Samit Bhanja), an athletic and non-intellectual man seeking to escape a recent romantic rejection, and Sekhar (Robi Ghosh), a self-assured and humorous figure. Their expedition into the wilderness transforms into a profound journey of self-discovery.
