Ein Herz spielt falsch (1953) follows the story of a man who, driven by financial desperation and a lack of ambition, enters into a marriage of convenience with a wealthy but unremarkable woman, fully aware of her declining health and limited lifespan. However, as their relationship progresses, he finds himself deeply in love with her and is devastated by the prospect of her impending death. In a desperate attempt to prolong her life, he exhausts all their financial resources, but his efforts prove futile. After his wife's passing, he is left destitute once more, yet profoundly transformed by the experience.
