Kingdom of Crooked Mirrors (1963) follows the journey of Olya, a lively and self-reliant blonde girl who ventures into an unusual realm after passing through a mirror. There, she encounters Yalo, her doppelgänger or mirror image, who joins her as a companion in this peculiar land. The kingdom is governed by a foolish king and his malevolent prime minister, who compel their subjects to create mirrors that distort reality, making the beautiful appear ugly and vice versa. A defiant boy, however, refuses to produce these mirrors and is condemned to death. Olya and Yalo aid the boy in escaping the Tower of Death where he awaits his execution. Together, the girls play a pivotal role in toppling the oppressive regime and igniting a revolution that ultimately transforms the kingdom into a liberated and joyful society. Olya eventually returns to her own world.
