Starlift (1951) follows the story of Air Force pilots Rick Williams and Mike Nolan who are eager to meet film star Nell Wayne, a fellow hometown resident of Rick. Misunderstandings arise when fellow stars Doris Day and Ruth Roman assume Rick is close to Nell, leading to a series of events that bring the pair together. The trio, along with other Hollywood stars, organize a performance for G.I.s traveling to and from the Korean War at Travis Air Base. However, Nell mistakenly believes Rick is deploying to the war zone, causing tension when she discovers the truth about his duties. Meanwhile, a new initiative, Operation Starlift, is launched by the Air Force and Hollywood studios, involving stars performing for troops in San Francisco.
