Agustín Ibarrola. Artista indomable (2018) delves into the vibrant and tumultuous artistic and public journey of the Basque artist Agustín Ibarrola, featuring insights from notable figures in the art and cultural spheres. Recognized as an artist from his early years, Ibarrola swiftly became a key player in the avant-garde movements of his time. Alongside other artists, he co-founded Equipo 57 and showcased his work across Europe, the United States, and Canada. Ibarrola's advocacy for the rationalization of art and his social activism sought to integrate anti-Franco sentiments into artistic expression. His political involvement led to his arrest and trial by military courts due to his membership in the Communist Party. During his imprisonment, he produced significant social paintings. In 1975, his farmhouse-studio was burned down by the extreme right, and during the democratic era, his opposition to radical Basque nationalism necessitated years of living under protection. His work faced relentless attacks from Basque nationalist networks. Today, Ibarrola continues to create oil paintings, public artworks, and is working on a new natural intervention in the Barranco de la Luz de Garafía.
