The Grown-Ups (2016) follows the lives of Anita, Rita, Ricardo, and Andrés, who have been part of a specialized school for individuals with Down syndrome for four decades. Now, surpassing 45 years of age, they find themselves yearning for more than the comfort and familiarity of their current environment. The routine of working in the school bakery no longer presents the challenges they seek. On a personal level, Anita and Andrés, who are deeply in love, long for a space of their own, dreaming of marriage and starting a family. However, societal limitations hinder their aspirations for greater independence. Despite receiving training to become "responsible adults," they remain reliant on others for decision-making, a situation that causes them significant frustration.
