The Animal Kingdom (1932) follows the story of Tom Collier, who, despite having a strong bond with Daisy, chooses to marry Cecelia instead. Post-marriage, Tom finds himself disenchanted with the social expectations and responsibilities that come with his new life. He compromises his literary aspirations by writing books for commercial success rather than personal fulfillment. Adding to his discontent, Tom's old friend is employed as a butler, but Cecelia insists on his dismissal. In an attempt to rekindle his past feelings, Tom reaches out to Daisy, but she ultimately decides to distance herself to safeguard both of their well-being.
