The Notorious Concubines (1969) unfolds in the backdrop of feudal China, where Chin Lien, a cunning and promiscuous woman, belittles her humble husband, Wu Ta, and harbors desires for her brother-in-law, Captain Wu Sing. When Wu Sing spurns her advances, Chin Lien turns to the affluent Men Ching. The discovery of her infidelity by Wu Ta leads to his poisoning at Chin Lien's hands, driving Wu Sing to madness and a violent rampage. Captured and imprisoned, Wu Sing is branded a murderer. Chin Lien then becomes Men Ching's fifth wife, causing turmoil in his already chaotic household. The other wives harbor deep resentment towards Chin Lien, spreading malicious rumors. Men Ching's indulgent lifestyle, filled with wild orgies, eventually leads to his disinterest in Chin Lien. When a new wife gives birth to a son, Chin Lien's jealousy drives her to place a cat in the nursery, resulting in the infant's death. Amidst this chaos, bandits wreak havoc in the countryside, targeting government convoys. Chin Lien, seeking to regain her husband's favor, urges him to eliminate Wu Sing. However, the bandits free Wu Sing, who continues his brutal spree, ultimately leading him back to the House of Men Ching and Chin Lien.
