Hate (1995) follows the lives of three young men from diverse backgrounds—Vinz, a Jewish individual, Hubert, an African, and Said, an Arab—who are struggling to find their place in the lower echelons of French society. Unemployed and with limited opportunities, they spend their days aimlessly wandering the streets, often getting entangled in conflicts with the police and other disenfranchised youth. One fateful day, a violent street riot erupts after police brutally injure an Arab student. The trio is arrested and interrogated, and it is revealed that a police officer has lost a gun during the chaos. Unbeknownst to their friends and the authorities, Vinz has secretly picked up the weapon, setting the stage for a series of escalating events.
