Cluny Brown (1946) follows the story of a Czech author, Adam Belinski, who has fled from the Nazis and found sanctuary at the countryside residence of the affluent and snobbish English Carmel family. The household's maid, Cluny Brown, is known for her unique skill set, which includes plumbing. As Adam and Cluny form a bond, a series of miscommunications arise among the Carmel family's son, his fiancée, and Adam. These events prompt the writer to decide to depart. Upon realizing her deep affection for Adam, Cluny pursues him to the train station, where she accepts his proposal of marriage.
