The Net (1953) follows a clandestine project involving a revolutionary jet aircraft designed to reach speeds three times faster than sound. On the pivotal day of the test flight, a scientist meets an untimely end in a baffling accident, sparking debates about the flight's control. While some advocate for ground control, Heathley (James Donald) insists on a manned flight with himself at the helm. Complications arise when a colleague, exploiting Heathley's neglect of his wife, Lydia (Phyllis Calvert), makes advances toward her. Amidst these tensions, the identity of a potential enemy agent within the project remains elusive. Heathley, driven by his singular focus, inadvertently exposes the traitor when selecting his co-pilot.
