Love! Valour! Compassion! (1997) follows Gregory as he extends an invitation to seven close friends to enjoy a summer retreat at his expansive, isolated 19th-century residence in upstate New York. The group includes Bobby, Gregory's partner who, despite being blind, finds joy in exploring the garden through touch; Art and Perry, a pair of successful professionals celebrating their 14th anniversary together; John, a gloomy British expat with a deep-seated dislike for his twin brother James; Ramon, John's companion who is immediately drawn to Bobby; James, a jovial individual in the late stages of AIDS; and Buzz, an enthusiast of classic Broadway musicals who is coping with his own HIV-positive diagnosis.
