Once We Were Good for You (2021) is set 25 years after the Homeland War, where Croatia's reality starkly contrasts with the dreams of its veterans, who are now disillusioned and marginalized despite their pensions. The country is plagued by poverty, depopulation, and corruption. A group of these veterans reunite with a vision to establish a Museum of Homeland Thanksgiving in the historic Paromlin building in downtown Zagreb. When construction is abruptly halted, the veterans seize control of the building, using threats of gas cylinders against the police and weapons against special forces. An ex-commander promises them a new site for the museum, but this too is a deception. The young men who initially supported the veterans, disheartened by the authorities' treatment of those who fought for Croatia, gravitate towards extreme right-wing ideologies.
