When the Wind Blows (1986) follows the story of an elderly British couple, Jim and Hilda, residing in the tranquil countryside. Jim, driven by government pamphlets, constructs a shelter, yet both he and Hilda misjudge the nature of the impending conflict, expecting it to resemble the Second World War rather than a nuclear war. As the war erupts, they endure a nuclear blast and await government assistance, expecting a swift return to normalcy. Unbeknownst to them, help is not forthcoming, and they are gradually succumbing to radiation poisoning, with survival becoming increasingly unlikely.
