A Casual Affair (1979) follows the story of Rosie Perreira, a widow with a tendency to worry excessively, who resides with her son Sabhi, who is deeply passionate about guitars, and her daughter Nancy. Rosie has high hopes for Nancy and wishes to see her married to a wealthy young man. Their neighbor, Tom, plays a pivotal role by introducing Nancy to Tony Braganza on the 9:10 AM Western Railway local train from Bandra to Churchgate. Tom also encourages Nancy to introduce Tony to Rosie. Initially, Rosie is skeptical about Tony due to his modest salary of Rs.300/, but her perspective shifts when she learns that his salary will increase to Rs.1000/- after his probation period. Nancy and Tony are allowed to spend time together, and they eventually fall in love. However, Nancy is eager to follow her mother's wishes and get married, while Tony is hesitant, leading Nancy to doubt his commitment. As a result, Rosie begins to explore other potential suitors for Nancy, while Tony remains uncertain about making any commitments.
