Caroline Cherie (1953) follows the tumultuous journey of Caroline de Bienre, a 16-year-old noblewoman, who finds herself entangled in a web of love and revolution. When the dashing rogue Gaston de Sallanches is expected to propose to her older sister, he instead finds himself drawn to Caroline. Their clandestine meetings in the château's attic lead to a passionate affair, much to the dismay of Livio, a sincere and devoted suitor who is patiently waiting for Caroline's affection. As the French Revolution of 1789 erupts, Caroline is sent to a convent for safety, but her journey is interrupted by an ambush. She flees and seeks refuge with Gaston, only to discover him with another woman. Heartbroken, Caroline agrees to marry Livio, who has become a marked revolutionary. Their union places Caroline on the death list, adding to the perilous circumstances they must navigate.
