Thus Another Day (1959) follows Yasuko, a discontented housewife grappling with financial strain, who departs from her Tokyo-based husband to reside at her parents' residence in Nagano. This move allows the couple to lease their home for the summer, helping to cover their mortgage. During her time in Nagano, Yasuko forms a close, non-romantic bond with Takemura, a gentle war veteran who, although unemployed, dedicates himself to caring for his daughter while his wife works at a neighboring resort.
