The Outsiders (1983) is a visually striking teen drama directed by Francis Ford Coppola, adapted from the acclaimed novel by S. E. Hinton. Set in 1960s Tulsa, the narrative revolves around two opposing groups: the affluent Socs and the disadvantaged Greasers. Darrel Curtis (Patrick Swayze) takes on the responsibility of caring for his younger siblings, Sodapop (Rob Lowe) and Ponyboy (C. Thomas Howell). Ponyboy, a creative and introspective youth, harbors feelings for Cherry (Diane Lane), a girl from the rival Socs gang. The story takes a dramatic turn when Ponyboy's friend, the troubled Johnny Cade (Ralph Macchio), fatally stabs a Soc in self-defense, forcing the two to flee and navigate a world that shuns them.
