With Prisoners (2017) follows the journey of Fan, an ambitious young troublemaker who finds himself in a tough spot after a heated altercation with an off-duty police officer. As a result, he is ordered to spend three months in a juvenile detention facility modeled after Hong Kong's Sha Tsui Detention Center, known for its rigorous, military-style rehabilitation program. The harsh environment is characterized by constant verbal abuse and mistreatment, primarily inflicted by the disillusioned and weary staff. Amidst this bleak setting, a few guards remain steadfast in their commitment to the rehabilitation process, adding a layer of complexity to the overall atmosphere.
