The Army Game (1960)

The Army Game (1960) follows the story of Jean Lerat de la Grignotière, a man with an inflated ego and an equally lengthy name. Complying with the call of his country, he reports to the barracks to fulfill his military obligations. Assigned to Corporal Bourrache's platoon, he is astonished to find his own servant, Joseph, among the ranks. While Jean stumbles from one mistake to another, facing ridicule from his peers and discipline from his superiors, Joseph effortlessly adapts to military life. Despite his initial struggles, Jean pursues a romantic interest in Catherine, the colonel's daughter, with limited success. His fortunes begin to change when he agrees to participate in a production of "Tire-au-flanc," a renowned comedy by Mouëzy-Eon. Playing the role of a servant while Joseph portrays his master, Jean finally gains popularity among his fellow soldiers and wins Catherine's affection.
