Elite Squad 2: The Enemy Within (2010) follows the aftermath of a violent operation by the BOPE in the high-security Bangu 1 Penitentiary in Rio de Janeiro, where Lieutenant-Colonel Roberto Nascimento and his second-in-command, Captain André Matias, face accusations of prisoner executions from human rights activist Diogo Fraga. Matias is reassigned to the corrupt Military Police, while Nascimento is removed from the BOPE by the Governor. Despite this, Nascimento's growing popularity leads to an invitation to collaborate with the intelligence division of the Secretary of Security. Over time, Fraga, now married to Nascimento's ex-wife, secures a position as State Representative, and Nascimento's son Rafael struggles with their relationship. As the BOPE continues to drive out drug dealers from various slums, a new adversary emerges: a militia led by Major Rocha, backed by the Governor, the Secretary of Security, and vote-seeking politicians.
