The Seventh Companion (1968)

The Seventh Companion (1968) unfolds in post-revolutionary St. Petersburg, Russia, following the tumultuous events of 1917. The story centers around Maj. General Yevgeni Pavlovich Adamov (portrayed by Andrei Popov), a former lawyer in the Tzar's Army and a respected professor of law at the Military Academy. In the autumn of 1918, Adamov is unjustly arrested, leading to the confiscation of his property and the stripping of his honors. Despite these hardships, he leverages his extensive experience and legal acumen to clear his name. Although he is eventually exonerated and released from prison, adapting to the new post-revolutionary society proves to be a formidable challenge. The narrative is adapted from the novel of the same name by Boris Lavrenev.
