Down Among the Sheltering Palms (1953) follows the story of Captain Willoby and his troops who, post-World War II, are stationed on the distant Midi Island. The soldiers are disheartened by their delayed return home, but their spirits lift when they encounter the welcoming local women. However, Willoby's orders strictly forbid any fraternization, complicating his mission. The situation becomes even more challenging with the arrival of Diana, the niece of a missionary, and Angela, a stunning journalist. Additionally, the island's king gifts Willoby the beautiful Rozouila as his "wife," further entangling the already complex dynamics on the island.
