Shadow of the Raven (1988) follows Trausti as he arrives back in Iceland, only to find himself caught up in a bitter family dispute centered around a beached whale carcass. His mother, the family matriarch, is gravely injured, and Grim takes the life of Erikur, the leader of a rival clan. Isold, Erikur's daughter, steps into her father's role. Despite the animosity between their families, Isold and Trausti find themselves drawn to each other. However, Isold is betrothed to Hjoerleifur, the son of the powerful Bishop of Iceland and his influential wife. Undeterred, Isold devises a strategy to navigate the complex web of alliances and rivalries that threaten to consume her and Trausti.
