Weightless (2017) unfolds in the quiet, isolated landscape of rural Fulton County, Georgia, where the only notable landmarks are a few modest homes, a bar, a gas station with a small convenience store, and a landfill. Joel, a reserved individual, works at the landfill, where he occasionally finds and salvages useful glass bottles. His solitary life takes an abrupt turn when he receives an unexpected call: his estranged wife has vanished, leaving him with the sudden responsibility of caring for their 10-year-old son, Will. Joel, who is about to meet his son for the first time, is uncertain about how to forge a bond with the introverted boy. Fortunately, Clara, a lively neighbor, steps in to assist, helping Will to gradually open up to his father. However, their newfound family dynamic is threatened by the looming presence of a youth welfare officer.
