The Harder They Fall (1956) follows the story of Eddie Willis, a sportswriter without a job, who is employed by the dishonest fight promoter Nick Benko. His task is to promote Benko's latest protégé, an Argentinian boxer named Toro Moreno. Despite Moreno's imposing size, his boxing career is hindered by a weak punch and a fragile jaw. Benko takes advantage of Willis' respected reputation in the boxing world to orchestrate a series of rigged fights, quickly elevating the inexperienced Moreno to the position of top contender for the championship. The current champion, the ruthless Buddy Brannen, is enraged by the attention Moreno is receiving and plans to brutally defeat him in the ring. Eddie is now faced with a difficult decision: should he reveal the truth to the unsuspecting Toro?
