Swordfish (2001) is a high-stakes techno-thriller directed by Dominic Sena, following his acclaimed action film from the previous year. The narrative revolves around Gabriel Shear, portrayed by John Travolta, a captivating spy with a grand plan to siphon billions from illicit government funds. To execute his scheme, Gabriel requires the expertise of a skilled hacker, leading him to Stanley Jobson, played by Hugh Jackman. Stanley, recently released from prison after a lengthy sentence for hacking into the FBI's cyber-surveillance systems, is under strict orders to stay away from computers and lives in a trailer park. His primary goal is to regain custody of his daughter Holly, who is with his ex-wife, now married to a pornographer. Gabriel and his partner, Ginger (Halle Berry), offer Stanley a deal: help them, and he can get his daughter back. However, Stanley soon discovers he is just a piece in a much larger and more dangerous game than he initially thought. Meanwhile, a tenacious federal agent (Don Cheadle), who previously arrested Stanley, is determined to unravel Gabriel's operation. The film also features performances by Sam Shepard and Zach Grenier.
