Waiting for Caroline (1969) follows the story of Caroline, a prosperous woman from Vancouver who relocates to Quebec and secures a position at an art gallery. She finds herself in a romantic entanglement with Marc, a French actor, just as her former college sweetheart, Peter, reappears and proposes marriage, urging her to return home. Caroline struggles with her decision, opting to delay her choice between the two men for as long as possible. She enjoys the dynamic of having her lovers as rivals, but neither can surpass her father's influence as the most significant man in her life. When her father reveals his plans to marry one of Caroline's college friends, she promptly returns to the west coast for his engagement celebration. Frustrated and tired of her indecision, both Marc and Peter follow her to the party, leading to a dramatic showdown.
