These laws, enacted in 11 states, have had a profound effect on clinics, particularly in the South, where many are now fighting for their existence. In Texas, fewer than half of the clinics operating in 2013 remain open. In Alabama, only three clinics are still open. In Mississippi, just one clinic remains. The documentary highlights the challenges clinics face in complying with stringent requirements, such as obtaining admitting privileges for physicians from local hospitals, undergoing costly renovations like widening hallways to accommodate wheelchairs and gurneys, and adhering to regulations typically reserved for hospitals, despite the fact that abortion providers rarely need such extensive facilities.
