The Kid (1999) follows the story of Maise, who, after her husband abandons her, leaves her infant son on a lavish yacht, anticipating that he will be taken in by wealthy parents. Unbeknownst to her, the yacht's owner, Daniel, has just suffered a catastrophic financial loss due to risky investments. Four years pass, and Maise has rebuilt her life, becoming a prosperous charity fund manager. Her path crosses with Daniel's once more, now finding him in a state of disrepair, residing in a rundown rooftop apartment with the very child she left behind.
