Once Upon a Time in China (1991) is a thrilling martial arts epic set in the late 19th century in Canton. The film follows the legendary martial arts hero Wong Fei-Hung as he stands against the encroaching foreign forces from England, France, and America who are exploiting China. When Aunt Yee returns from America, fully assimilated into Western culture, Wong Fei-Hung takes on the role of her guardian. This responsibility becomes increasingly challenging as his martial arts school and local militia engage in intense battles with both foreign invaders and local authorities. As the violence intensifies, even Aunt Yee begins to question her newfound Western values, raising the poignant question: can Kung Fu truly prevail against the might of modern firearms?
