Against the Ice (2022) follows the harrowing journey of Captain Ejnar Mikkelsen (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) and his inexperienced companion, Iver Iversen (Joe Cole), as they embark on a perilous mission in 1909. The Denmark's Alabama Expedition aims to challenge the United States' territorial claim over Northeastern Greenland, which was based on the misconception that Greenland was divided into two separate landmasses. Mikkelsen and Iversen venture across the treacherous ice, leaving their crew behind with the ship. Their expedition successfully uncovers evidence proving Greenland's unity, but their return journey is fraught with unforeseen challenges. Facing severe hunger, exhaustion, and a terrifying polar bear encounter, they eventually reach their destination only to discover their ship destroyed by ice and their camp deserted.
