Sleeping Beauty (1959)

Sleeping Beauty (1959) begins with the joyous celebration of a new princess born to King Stefan and his wife. During a grand ceremony, three benevolent fairies—Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather—bestow magical gifts upon the infant. However, the celebration is disrupted by the malevolent sorceress Maleficent, who, offended by a remark from Merryweather, curses the princess. The curse decrees that the princess, named Aurora, will prick her finger on a spinning wheel and die on her 16th birthday. Merryweather attempts to mitigate the curse by altering it so that Aurora will fall into a deep sleep, from which she can be awakened by true love's kiss. The fairies then hide Aurora in a secluded cottage in the woods, raising her under the name Briar Rose. On her 16th birthday, Aurora encounters Prince Phillip, the son of a king whose kingdom is set to merge with King Stefan's, and the two fall in love. Maleficent, however, manages to capture Prince Phillip and tricks Aurora into touching a spinning wheel, fulfilling the curse. The three good fairies rush to Maleficent's castle to rescue Prince Phillip, who must then face Maleficent's formidable army and her dark magic, including a thorn forest and a battle against Maleficent in her dragon form. The question remains: will Prince Phillip be able to overcome the sorceress's evil powers and save Aurora?
