Tom Jones (1963) follows the life of Tom Jones (Albert Finney), a foundling raised by the benevolent Squire Allworthy. Tom's existence is marked by the jealousy of Allworthy's legitimate heir, Blifil, and his own penchant for the ladies. His affection for Sophie Western (Susannah York), the daughter of Squire Western, leads to complications when he is caught with a local girl, Molly, resulting in his expulsion from Allworthy's home. Tom's journey takes him to London, where he engages in a relationship with the affluent Lady Bellaston. Meanwhile, Sophie is betrothed to Blifil, leading her to flee to London. There, she encounters her cousin, Mrs. Fitzpatrick, who is also escaping her husband. Mr. Fitzpatrick, suspicious of Tom's involvement with his wife, adds to the entanglements. The film garnered critical acclaim, winning four Academy Awards in 1963, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Music, with a total of ten nominations.
