Schoolgirls (2020) unfolds within the confines of a Catholic girls' school choir, where Celia's voice is silenced by the institution's strict rules. Her quiet compliance with the conservative norms of a monotonous and uninspired environment is disrupted by the arrival of a new student, Brisa. As Celia stands at the cusp of adolescence, she begins to crave the vibrancy and diversity of life. A strong connection forms between the two girls, leading them to challenge the authority figures and their inflexible regulations. Through minor acts of defiance, Celia gains the confidence to question the values that dictate her world in 1990s Spain, as she starts to probe into her own family history, a subject her mother has always avoided.
