A Place in the World (1992) follows the story of Mario and Ana, who have chosen to live in seclusion from Buenos Aires in a distant Argentine valley with their 12-year-old son, Ernesto. Mario manages a school and a wool cooperative, while Ana, a doctor, oversees a clinic alongside Nelda, a forward-thinking nun. Their tranquil and principled life is disrupted by the arrival of Hans, a disillusioned Spanish geological engineer. Hans is tasked with assessing the land for potential hydroelectric power generation, a project that could displace the local peasants and force them into urban areas.
