American Madness (1932) unfolds during the challenging 1930s, amidst the Great Depression. The narrative revolves around Thomas Dickson, whose bank's Board of Directors pressures him to merge with New York Trust and step down. Dickson stands firm in his refusal. One fateful night, Dickson's bank is targeted in a heist, with $100,000 stolen. The prime suspect is Matt Brown, an ex-convict whom Dickson had hired and promoted to Chief Teller. Brown, deeply loyal to Dickson, remains tight-lipped about his whereabouts that night, even though he has two witnesses who can vouch for his alibi: Mrs. Dickson and a colleague, Cyril Cluett. Brown's silence is driven by his desire to shield Dickson from the truth—that Mrs. Dickson and Cluett were together that evening in a romantic tryst. Cluett, burdened by a $50,000 gambling debt, is the actual culprit behind the robbery but manipulates the situation to frame Brown.
